Kia South Africa has introduced the new Sonet with a significantly updated exterior design, an upgraded interior and a range that has been repositioned in the highly competitive A-SUV segment of the market, ensuring that the compact SUV now offers consumers an even better value proposition than before.

Renowned for its inherent engineering, quality finishes and big car attitude, the Sonet remains one of the most desirable small SUVs currently on offer.

The exterior design is inspired by Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy and the design update to the Sonet sees the inherently sporty design embracing and even bolder and more futuristic expression that is thoroughly modern and effortlessly stylish.

Upfront the Sonet gains a new light signature, a new front bumper, an updated iteration of Kia’s tiger nose grille and a revised fender and bonnet, which all combine to create a notably more dramatic visage that adds to the Sonet’s wide, confident stance.

At the rear, this sporty, wide stance is reiterated through redesigned taillights that are horizontally connected just beneath the rear window, giving the Sonet a new rear light signature that compliments the redesigned tailgate and bumper.

The dimensions of the Sonet remain unchanged which in conjunction with a long wheelbase and short rear overhang frees up space in the cabin and boot, giving the Sonet one of the roomiest cabins in its class. The Sonet offers excellent leg and headroom compared to many of its segment competitors, while the 385-litre boot is also one of the biggest in the segment. Ride comfort is ensured through a combination of a MacPherson strut set up at the front, coupled to a torsion beam axle at the rear. Two 16-inch wheel options are available, in conjunction with the different model derivatives

A revised range that offers maximum choice

Along with the launch of the updated Sonet, Kia has repositioned the entire range in order to offer customers maximum choice across a compact range without compromising on standard specification or value for money while ensuring that it offers the best package possible.

Standard safety features across all derivatives includes ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-start assist control, Isofix child seat anchors and dual front airbags.

The Sonet LX

Sonet LX models are fitted with body-coloured bumpers and trim for the side mirrors as well as 16-inch styled wheels. The interior is finished with black cloth upholstery combined with artificial leather, along with driver’s seat height adjustment. The steering wheel is adjustable for rake. Electric windows are on offer all
round and manual air-conditioning is standard.  An eight-inch touchscreen incorporates a reverse camera and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which can be controlled via steering wheel controls.

The Sonet EX

The Sonet EX gains rear parking sensors, rear fog lamps, roof rails and side mirror integrated indicators. The high-mounted stop lamp in the rear spoiler, rear combination lights, positioning lamps and daytime running lights gain LED illumination.  Interior additions include a storage box with integrated armrest between the two front seats and cruise control.

Sonet EX Plus

The specification list of the Sonet EX Plus is bolstered with the addition of a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system integrated with a 10.25-inch TFT LCD Supervision instrument cluster, full artificial leather upholstery and the addition of an electrochromic rearview mirror and wireless charging pad for mobile devices. The exterior of the EX Plus is differentiated by 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Sonet SX

The Sonet SX represents the new top of the range model and is differentiated through the fitment of a range of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems which include Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Follow Assist and Forward Collision Avoidance Assist. Drive mode select is also added to the SX-grade, allowing the driver to select from Comfort, Eco, Sport and Smart sub-settings.
