Over the next few months Kia Retail will be testing an array of Kia models in order to showcase their fuel economy attributes across real world driving conditions. These fuel economy tests will be performed by Charl Wilken who is well known for his long career in motorsport and more recently as director of the very successful 2019 Wesbank Fuel Economy Tour.
It might sound like a myth, but a clean car does improve fuel consumption, especially a well-polished one. The fact is a clean car will have less overall drag, as the vehicles body will be more slippery, allowing the vehicle to push through the air with slightly less resistance. Another crucial factor influencing fuel consumption is wheel alignment. If you are looking at saving a bit of fuel, double checking that your car’s toe angle is as close to zero as possible, but within manufacturer’s recommendations might just do the trick. Too much negative or positive toe will increase drag of the wheels on the road surface, negatively impacting your vehicle’s fuel economy.
Once the tank was topped up and the trip computer reset the team headed down to Durban once again. While the Seltos did require a little more throttle input to maintain speed compared to the Sportage we tested last month, that was not detrimental to the fuel consumption at all. After 6 hours and 14 minutes of driving time, the team arrived in Durban and once the tank was refilled and the calculations done it emerged that the Seltos had used only 3,8 litres per 100km on the trip down to
the coast. Equally impressive was the potential range of 1 200 kilometres projected by the on-board computer for the 50-litre fuel tank.
This remarkable fuel economy achievement establishes the Kia Seltos 1.5 CRDi as one of the most economical sub-compact SUVs that money can buy. The combination of a relaxed driving experience, a spacious and comfortable interior and outstanding fuel efficiency make it a top choice for discerning sub-compact SUV buyers.
The Kia Seltos CRDI is available in a choice of two specification levels. EX models are available with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission, while EX+ models are only available with a six-speed automatic transmission.
