Kia Seltos - Go, hamba, gaan…Tsamaya

While the road trip they embarked on was certainly enjoyable, it was the Kia Seltos that truly stole the spotlight. The Seltos exhibited excellent performance on various terrains, but it was its exceptional performance on gravel roads that left a lasting impression. In Anton's opinion, the Seltos stands out as one of his favourite crossovers in a highly competitive market segment. Beyond its attractive appearance, it offers remarkable comfort and impressive fuel efficiency.

However, the Seltos is much more than just a stylish vehicle; it boasts a multitude of outstanding qualities that set it apart. When it initially hit the market in 2019, Kia aimed to cater to a wide range of preferences by offering various trim options, engines, and powertrains. During their journey, they had the opportunity to test the EX+ model, which is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine.

Although the power output of 86W may seem modest, the torque rating of 250 Nm between 1,400 and 2,750rpm means that the Seltos responds swiftly when you accelerate. The six-speed gearbox is impressively responsive, eliminating the need to search for the right gear, which was particularly advantageous on the numerous mountain passes we traversed. The diesel engine performs at its best within the mid-range revs and starts to taper off at around 4,000rpm, but pushing it that far isn't necessary for effective acceleration, especially when overtaking.

In addition to its responsive and fuel-efficient engine, the Seltos offers a superb balance between ride quality and handling, making it a joy to drive. Despite some noticeable body roll, it provides excellent feedback, instilling a sense of confidence and control when tackling challenging mountain passes.

To top it off, the Seltos features an aesthetically pleasing cabin. The EX+ variant boasts leather-trimmed seats that enhance its overall sophistication, complementing the spacious dashboard layout and elegant piano black finish. In summary, the Seltos presents an appealing, cost-effective, and practical choice in the crossover market while still possessing the capabilities of an SUV for venturing off the beaten path.
