The study included over 30 000 completed surveys and examined how 2020 model year vehicles are performing in terms of quality, component replacement and appeal. The survey returned an industry average of 186 problems per 100, with Kia ranking the best across mass-market brands with 152 problems per 100. Common problems across all vehicle brands include battery failures, outdated maps, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay issues and voice recognition problems. The increase in faults in the technology sub sector shows the importance that over the air updates can play in correcting issues with technology such as audio systems.
The infotainment category continues to be the most problematic with an industry average of 49.9 PP100, which is almost twice as many problems as the next most problematic category, which is exterior.
The J.D Power US Vehicle Dependability Study is a long running study and the achievements in this study strengthen Kia’s reputation for dependability and reliability.
Kia has been ranked the number one mass-market brand in the J.D Power 2023 US Vehicle Dependability Study for the third consecutive year. This ranking is based on owners reporting the fewest number of issues after three years of ownership.
In addition, the Kia Forte, Optima and Sportage were crowned the overall winners
in their respective segments.
